DESCRIPTION: Mauch Chunk Opera House was purchased in 1974 by The Mauch Chunk Historical Society
for $1 and began its restoration. Today the Mauch Chunk Opera House once again is rising to its former glory as the
jewel of the community, and is nationally respected as a venue for live performance and cultural events. Now
regular performances of rock music, singer-songwriters, jazz, contemporary dance, theater and classical music fill
The summer of 2008 saw the recording of Live at the Mauch Chunk Opera House by the
brilliant Canadian vocal group, The Wailin Jennys. Another singer-songwriter Michael Martin Murphey who contributed
massive pop and progressive country hits like Wildfire, Carolina In The Pines, and What’s
Forever For and more. In the 90’s, he added the title of top-selling singer of American Cowboy music in the
world; and then earned a Grammy nomination in 2009 for Buckaroo Blue Grass. Plus! Four decades into a
stellar career of uncompromising musical integrity, Jonathan Edwards simply delivers, night after night, songs of
passion, insight, and humor. The writer and singer of classics like Sunshine, Shanty and
Athens County, Edwards’ pure and powerful tenor has only grown sweeter with age. Both artists will share
the stage for the first time at the Mauch Chunk Opera House performing their own material, as well as many classics
together in October 2012. In November 2012 you'll see its Third Annual Boolesque Halloween Show and back by popular
demand, A Coal Country Christmas Carol. In December 2012 a one-of-a-kind holiday experience, Twelve Twenty Four
Holiday Show featuring the music of the Trans Siberian Orchestra. There are many more shows to see. Be prepared for
the best time of you life when you see a show at the Mauch Chunk Opera House.
The Mauch Chunk Opera House is operated by the Mauch Chunk Historical Society, an all-volunteer, non-profit organization.

Jim Thorpe PA is located at the western edge of the Pocono Mountains. It is reached via the
Northeast Extension of the PA Turnpike (I-476.) From Exit 74 (Mahoning Valley), follow US Route 209S though
Lehighton to Jim Thorpe.
